Sept 6-7 Delhi at Last!

5:30 PM
I am in Delhi!.... just want to write and let you know how nice it is to be back in Delhi....

12:30 noon.....same day earlier....I have just settled into my room! Forgot how pleasant this hotel is and how nice the people are. Ordered room service, I'll eat, shower, rest and then go out. So excited to be hre...and see sites I recognize. It is no longer a frightening place but I knew I would have this warm feeling of "coming home" when i got here. If I feel like this about Delhi, imagine how I will feel when I get to McLeod!

I am now sitting in the Internet cafe across the street from the hotel where I sat last time, but it is not hot at all...the weather is not cool, but I am not dripping with sweat either and this after a short 1/2 walk up and down the Main Bazaar just for old times sake. And I don't know why, but not ONE guy called "Madam come see...." or "may I help you" or"Where you from"...to me...either they are all tired or I look like I know where I am going and what I am doing...either way, it was quite pleasant just to stroll and not be hassled...

Coming from the train station we passed all kinds of places I've been before and it brought back lots of fun memories...Darya-remember the day we spent shopping in Janpath?? I also passed the hotel Aviva stayed at, Le Meridian, and if that is all she saw of Delhi, she must think it is a BEAUTIFUL city!! Whatever...I'm glad I have this extra day here to unwind...wouldn't want to think that in a couple of hours I have to get back on a train and go to Pathankot.

Sunday, sept. 7th

Well, right now it is 1 PM and I am sitting at the Interenet place.
It is raining outside so my plans of walking around town are out...and for 20 rupees (2 shekel) an hour, this is certainly a cheap form of entertainment on a rainy day in delhi. Later I will go to eat, rest and then get ready for my trip tonight to Pathankot. I had a pleasant day yesterday after resting, went out to stroll and found this real nice fairly new restaurant (it wasn't here 2 years ago) called Sam's with a nice store front and AC inside right in the Main Bazaar..Across the street from Ajay and Hare Rama (which is where I was headed but saw this first and figured why not)...They have an enormous selectiong of homemade pastas and all look very good. I finally chose (they have all kinds of other foods as well to suit any taste)...Met a nice young Israeli couple travelling with their 1 1/2 year old son...they are at the end of their trip. The came to travel but mostly to buy fabric as they sew and design clothing back in Israel...she is originally from Kibbutz Magal but live now in Ramat Hasharon but are planning to move to Michmoret. Their baby also had a problem in Bhagsu (had amoebas and bad diarhea etc like yali) but after a course of antibiotics he was fine)...they were staying at some new guesthouse up the mountain between bhjagsu and Dharamkot which they said is definitely worth my while checking out...Trimurti house it is called...will look when I get there... Anyway, I ate a pleasant meal, had a good cup of coffee, returned to my room and watched a couple of movies and slept quite well. Ate a light breakfast in my room, watched some more TV until I got tired of it and now am here to get part 2 of the trip off.... will probably just waste away the rest of the day...I can also get a nice sandwich at the restaurant to take with me on the train for the journey...and will eat a late lunch there...and then I guess dinner in my room before taking off at 7:15...by the way...the guy in the guesthouse was quite nice...could have easily charged me a full 500 rupees for today as a second night, but he is only charging me 250...1/2 price....it is really a nice place...when you call down in the morning for tea, they ask if you slept well...!

Sunday sept 7th-Delhi
Sitting at Sam;s waiting for steamed veggies in white sauce baked in a wood oven...found out something else. no longer afraid of being killed walking around in the main bazaar in the streets..after walking around in Chennai I realized that the whole business is not a question of bravery or "knowing how" to do it. It is just believing that no one will kill you and you just have to walk to where you need to go the best way you can. Just navigated the Main Bazaar from Internet to restaurant overcoming a cow who was standing crosswise in the alley I was coming out of...just pushed his/her head and he/she moved aside...out to the street. I don't want to walk in puddles so can't walk straight...bicycle rickshaws, autos, motorcycles, people, puddles, mud, debris and just walked ahead..no one bumped into me, no one hit me,,,missed all the puddles and got here with no problem and my heart didn't change it's beat for a second. WOW.... food looks really yummy...be back...
cauliflower, tomato, green beans, carrots, potatoes...all cooked until just done and still crispy (except for potatoes of course) really delicious white cheese sauce on top with fresh herbs as well and garlic bread on side. Ordered food to take for train journey as well... These guys know how to cook.

BTW...anyone needing a good clean toilet in the middle of the Main Bazaar- go THROUGH Sam;'s restaurant-up to the second floor and there is a toilet for use! Now ordered apple pie and mint tea...delicious....
