Physiotherapist...Insights into the "New Me"...Classical Indian Music Concert

September 21, 2003

Hi All
Sign in a restaurant today:
"Regard the one who reveals your faults, as the one who tells you about a hidden treasure"
Think about it!!!!
Just scattered notes....nothing really exciting happening and that's good....feeling so laid back and relaxed...even lazy....and it is nice to be able to allow myself the privilege of feeling that way....
The other day when we were at the Chocolate Log pigging out...Nathan mentioned he heard there was a very good massage guy down there at the "green house"....so I went to check it out as I have been having no luck with the ayurveda guys herel...a really nice tibetan man came to the door and spoke to me very politely and I decided to make an appointment for the next day as my instincts told me this guy was something different than the regular guys after the tourist trade just for money....so my first treatment was yesterday and I was quite surprised....when he first started, he first asked me to do all kinds of movements just like Merav (the physiotherapist who got me back into functioning shape many years back when I was almost paralized with back and neck problems)...used to do....I didn't say anything, and he seemed to know exactly where my problems were (or used to be)...then he started to work on me and began at my neck and right away I got worried and made him stop and started to say something and he said"please do not owrry...I know what I am doing"...and so I stopped worrying...I could have sworn he was doing Maitland like Merav used to do but couldn't figure out how a Tibetan massage guy in India would know this...so finally asked how he knows so much...turns out he is a physiotherapist with a degree not only from India, but also has travelled to Canada, USA, Australia and Holland for further certification and to learn other techniques...and he WAS doing Maitland....and he was excellent!...he also seemed to always just do one side of my body, different sides for different things, but never working both sides at the same time...or doing the same thing to one side and then the other and this seemed strange...as if he had forgotten...but I didnt say anything at that point. Then at the end he suggested 3 treatments in a row so he could finish what he was doing on my back and I agreed but he said he would do Rolfing on my legs tomorrow (today)....well, had another session today and it was even better than yesterday...and I finally asked why he doesn't almost do both sides and he explained that massage therapists do not understand this idea but very often particularly when spine and vertebrae are invovled, the pain in one side comes from problems on the other, and only the side with the problem should be treated to relieve the problems there, thereby reducing pain in the other side....made sense and as I know my body and its problems very well....he was quite correct in everything he diagnosed...tomorrow he will be doing continued work on my very stiff legs and problem spine as well as laser to help clear up the ligament injury to my shoulder...it is quite uncomfortable and he hopes the laser will help.
Anyway...meeting this guy here was truly amazing...it is in a very out of the way place and I never would have found him, even if I had just been doing canvasing for massages...so again...I'm being looked after, as always.
He also gave me excercies to do and corrected me today and gave me others as well as correctly certain of the yoga things I do and also explained how joint problems can cause frequent urination (having nothing to do with uric acid as I might have thought)
He said that Ayurveda and other kinds of massages are very pleasant at the time but you feel the same afterwards...his may be unpleasant (reminds me of Aviva) while he does them but will make a big difference afterward...and I am already feeling some loosening up in walking in my lower back and pelvic area...I never have pain there, but apparently much stiffness was there.
Being without music all the time has made me more appreciated music when I DO hear it like in the restaurants...very nice..
I have alsonited a very big change in my eating habits and my needs to constantly be "noshing" between meals to keep my sugar level from fluctuating to often. I can go many many hours with no food, with absolutely no ill effects (except for may hunger pains)...and have had no problem with sugar going up and down irradically and causing me dizziness etc....I also am eating much differently than last time as I have very little desire for sweets and cakes (although I do eat them)...and doubt I will gain weight the way I did last time...I eat out only once a day and simple meals at the guesthouse otherwise...and I am feeling wonderful...I think this must be a long-term balancing of my systems after doing Reiki each day for two years...and something which happened so gradually that I didn't notice it until now....I still keep snacks with me always in my bag out of habit, but have not touched them once since getting here!
Went to this really great concert last night...and as always, the music just swept through me and swept me away...it is quite amazing the flute and tabla and the sitar and tabla...at one point they announced they were playing a folk song and also a western folk song in the middle....what did the western folk song turn out to be??? Shalom Aleichem!!! really funny!
Without my background chanting and music during meditation, I have also been experiencing different things and getting to places I have never gotten to before...and I am finding the adjustment to silence strangely comforting.
What thing I realized this morning was that I no longer feel the need to "prove"my worth or value or ability to "do"things to myself (or anyone else) as I did during my last trip. So no longer feel the need for challenges such as trekking or even Triund...am perfectly happy just to walk for the pure thrill it gives me...
I will still go up to Bhagsu waterfall, and walk one of the back paths to Tibetan Childnren's Village and Dal Lake...and am also chekcing out a couple of other guesthouses for future use.
It for now...more tomorrow..
Love
