October 29, 2003-Indian Summer
Dear all,
funny, Iv'e not had the need to write lately...and also thought there would be nothing new to write today anyway....but that could never be here in India...The weather last nite was actually warm...had to take off my winter layers to sleep and today is what I guess would be called in the States "Indian Summer" Gorgeous clear blue sky, very warm, back to summer clothes basically but I have none left so I am quite warm. You can see the mountains so clearly, one range after the other...and up here it is picture post card beautiful. Although feeling better, I am still not "myself" so took a short but nice 2 hour walk today. and although I've been out this way many times I always see something new. I think I would never tire of these mountains. But I stopped before going on a new unexplored path today after remembering all the warnings...perhaps the next time I come I will not be alone and will be able to do more exploring.
Coming up today the monkeys were in full force-probably taking advantage of the unseansonbly warm weather to enjoy the fresh air...4 REALLY big males sat directly across the road scratching their balls and eyeing me as I apporached. They did not budge as I advanced...just kep scratching and looking. I remembered being advised if threatented to bend down as if to pick up a rock to throw-don't even have to throw-and kept that in mind as I approached. i kept walking and slid past them on one side of the road...they watched as I past and felt this chill go up my spine as my back faced them...but I finally allowed myself to peek back and they had not moved a drop. Also had to navigate a flock of goats, sheep and 2 cows. busy morning!....But the funniest thing was when I was up at the top where the road divides into 3 paths...a couple approached, western and obviously lost, and asked ME for directions. I explained where the 3 paths headed and they said they were looking for the waterfall. Told them how to backtrack and get there! I can't give directions in Hadera, but up here in the mountains I've become an expert!
Internet not working today and I'm doing this on notepad and saving on my trusty floppy to send off another day....that was one of the smartest things I did this trip...always carrying it with me...
New people are still showing up at the guesthouse so life is always interesting but much more quiet, and I am taking advantage of every moment now to be with ME...it will all end soon!...Love for today...
