Nov 7, 2003 The Peak Says Farewell-Last View from Nick's
Friday, 4:30....
Sitting here at Nick's getting my last view of "the peak"...coming clearly into view as if especially for me from behind the clouds. There is already some light snow on it and the sun just going down behind me but still throwing it's last rays on the peak. I am looking at the marigolds, large pink-purple and yellow mums, and button mums of yellow, begonias and geraniums growing profusely here on the rooftop garden. And tears streaming as I realize this is the last time I will sit here this trip. The peak has gone into hiding again behind the white clouds as if to say "OK, I've given you last glimpse...now I'm gone". The sky is till brilliant blue and the air crisp and clean...I will be meeting my new Israeli friends for dinner at the Korean restaurant which I have never tried and hope to do some last minute shopping if I feel up to it. I am covered again in those itchy bumps...allergy? bedbugs (seems unlikely as no one else in the guesthouse has any problems)...don't know but they are driving me crazy. They are everywhere...they DO look like hives...nerves? Have no idea, but whatever, all over in a couple of days...Just met an Israeli couple who arrived 2 days ago from Israel and they told me to take a very long deep breath of air here to get me through the return home! It's almost like people who were preparing me for the worst 2 years ago before landing in Delhi...getting me ready for the trauma, so that when the time actually came, I was pleasatnly surprised when I arrived. I can only assume this will now be the reverse when I arrive home this week...after all the dire warnings, I will be pleasently surprised at how nice and peaceful everything is.
That's about it...am spening a few minutes at the internet place before going down to meet the guys at the restaurant, and then hope to sleep well tonight in spite of the itchies!...If not, will watch movies all night like I did yesterday....saw a good Dustin Hoffman film, HERO, which was quite good...or maybe having nothing better to do at 1 AM, it seemed good. Hoping for the best tonight...
Will probably write one or maybe two more journals, or maybe none, depending on how I feel in Delhi....
PS...was able to get everything into my bag that I wanted to without having to get an extra bag...left a few more things for Ashish which I can easily do without and didn't pack the blanket cover which has been in use travelling the world for years now, but has really seen better days...so left it for one of the couples here who were happy to get it as it is a double size...and saves me lots of space in the bag not having it. Hard to leave it for sentimental reasons, but it is all full of holes and tears anyway and has done a good job over the years abut time to retire it. New one next trip!
That's it for today...
